The Nike SB Dunk Low Pro Why So Sad? is a collaborative release with Scottish professional skateboarder John Rattray and his mental-health initiative, Why So Sad?. Founded as a creative response to the challenges surrounding mental health and suicide within the skateboarding community, the project uses skateboarding, cycling and art to encourage movement, conversation and positive change. The SB Dunk Low transforms that message into a highly detailed sneaker built around optimism and progression.

The upper combines premium Coastal Blue leather with darker blue overlays, creating a layered tonal appearance that develops further with wear. Contrasting Speed Yellow accents appear throughout the design, while the Nike Swoosh incorporates a wear-away construction that gradually reveals yellow underneath its initial blue finish. Red detailing provides another energetic contrast across the otherwise cool-toned palette.

Signature Why So Sad? artwork gives the collaboration its distinctive identity. The heel features the project’s playful bird character riding a skateboard, while additional custom graphics and branding appear throughout the tongue, heel and insoles. These illustrated details reflect Rattray’s approach of using creativity and humour to communicate a serious message without losing the personality of skateboarding culture.

Designed as a performance SB Dunk, the sneaker features a padded tongue and collar for support alongside responsive Zoom Air cushioning for impact protection.
